The Valor Award recognizes a graduating student from the military-connected community who demonstrates exceptional academic commitment, leadership, perseverance, and meaningful impact while balancing the unique demands of military-connected life.
Military-connected experiences often require individuals and families to navigate unique challenges while pursuing their educational goals. Through service, sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth, these students enrich the University community and inspire others through their example.
This award honors graduates whose experiences as veterans, active-duty service members, members of the National Guard or Reserve, or military family members have shaped their educational journey and inspired meaningful contributions to the University, the military-connected community, and the broader communities they serve.
The Valor Award may be presented annually. However, if no application sufficiently meets the established criteria, the award may not be presented.

University Events will first verify that each application:
- Meets the published eligibility requirements.
- Is submitted by the established deadline.
- Includes all required application materials.
- Confirms the applicant is a member of the applicable graduating class and is in good academic and conduct standing.
Military-connected eligibility will be determined through the applicant's self-reported eligibility category and available University records. Applicants will not be required to submit military, family, medical, or other sensitive documentation solely to verify their military-connected status.
Eligible applications are then reviewed by faculty and staff volunteers using a standardized evaluation rubric.
The committee evaluates applicants based on:
